2014 Weekly Lent Book Discussion: The Scent of Holiness

Each Wednesday of Lent, starting with March 5th we will discuss The Scent of Holiness. The evening starts with the Liturgy of Presantified Gifts at 6:00 P.M., followed by a pot luck dinner and book discussion in the taverna I(~7:00). We will discuss a couple of chapters every week. Join author Constantina Palmer as she makes frequent pilgrimages to a women's monastery in Greece and absorbs the nuns' particular approach to their spiritual life. Men who wish to understand how women's spirituality differs from their own will find it a fascinating read. From the author’s blog: “Although the book focuses on encounters with Orthodox nuns, it was written for the spiritual benefit of both single and married men and women alike. It is for busy mothers and fathers who may not have the time and ability to frequently visit a monastery.” View the book trailer and visit the author’s blog at: http://lessonsfromamonastery.wordpress.com/the-scent-of-holiness/. About the Author: Constantina R. Palmer is originally from New Brunswick, Canada. Currently, she lives in Thessaloniki with her husband, a deacon in the Canadian Archdiocese of the OCA. She has called Greece home for five years, in which time she has received her Master’s degree in Theology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She is also an iconographer and a student of Byzantine chant.
The Scent of Holiness is currently available for sale in the church bookstore and for borrowing in the church library.
