January 16, 2014 Book Discussion: Oriented Leadership: Why Every Christian Needs It and 2014 Book List

Welcome to our blog and 2014 Orthodox Book Discussion Group. We have a exciting line-up of books to nourish mind and soul. In this post, we  describe our January book selection, Oriented Leadership, then below we announce our 2014 booklist. There are many levels of participation in the book discussion group. Some come to the discussions, but do not read the book; some read the book, but do not come to the discussion; some do both, and some simply read our emails or visit our blog. Whatever your level of participation, make it a New Year's resolution to join us for even more!

Oriented Leadership: Why All Christians Need It
(This is a book for  everyone!)

Excerpt: “All of us have been, are, or will be in leadership roles. For instance, most people are parents (or aunts, uncles, grandparents) providing leadership roles in the family; and certainly anyone willing to be at all active in the life of the Church is likely to find himself/herself a committee chairperson in short order!  Then there are those of us who have leadership roles at work. You see, most people are involved in leadership in one way or another.”

Leadership defined: “To perceive, articulate,…define, and communicate…all actions which follow Christ’s example of service.”

“Our Orthodox …understanding of stewardship is our Christian way of life and…. leadership is needed to accomplish our stewardship.”

This is what the book seller had to say about Oriented Leadership:

An explanation of Christian leadership from an Eastern Orthodox perspective, using Scripture and the model of the attributes of relationship between the Persons of the Holy Trinity. Subjects include the general question of leadership, the sources of Christian vision, practical applications of Trinitarian theology, impact of the Kingdom of God on Christian leadership, Christian Stewardship and the Christian understanding of Servant Leadership. Management, administration and planning are addressed under the heading of Organization Stewardship. Oriented Leadership written by a CEO and a director of strategic accounts, both of whom are Orthodox Christians.

Finally, we  would like to announce the five books approved by Fr. Christos for discussion in 2014. All five books are available in the library and bookstore.
