October 18, 2012 Book Discussion: The Trial of Job

The Trial of Job: Orthodox Christian Reflections on the Book of Job by Fr. Patrick Reardon

October 18, 2012 7:00 p.m. Church Parlor

A insightful description of the Trial of Job: Orthodox Christian Reflections on The Book of Job has been written by Fr. John Chryssavgis and is reprinted here: “ The Book of Job always constituted essential …reading about the ways of the soul. … Yet, for some reason, the figure of Job is elusive to us—possibly because he seems so comfortably distant; or perhaps because he seems so frightfully close. What Fr. Patrick Reardon achieves with this book is to render Job comprehensible (to those of us who are still lay readers of Scripture), tangible (to those who have not yet tasted the way of darkness and despair), and accessible (to those who have already experienced any form of brokenness and broken-heartedness). Ultimately, all of us identify with one or another aspect of Job’s life.”

The structure of this 104-page book involves a collection of short commentaries on each of the 42 chapters of the Book of Job. When reading this book, some readers will have a strong desire to read each chapter of the Book of Job from the Bible and then read Fr. Reardon’s corresponding commentary.

Both the Orthodox Study Bible and the Trial of Job: Orthodox Christian Reflections on the Book of Job are available in the church’s Orthodox Bookstore and Library.  If you would like to be added to the Book Discussion Group email list, email tcolaizzo@aol.com
