The BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP will meet on April 30th ( following Great Lent and Easter) for our meeting at Aggie Polisson's house - 28 Kings Trail , Williamsville at 7:30 to discuss The Shack.
This review is taken from Congregational Libraries Today (January/February issue)
" In the religious world, few novels have created as much "stir" recently as William P. Young's runaway best seller, The Shack (Wind-blown Media, ISBN 978-0964729230). The story concerns a grief-stricken, middle -age father who has an extraordinary experience with God. Its been praised as the equivalent of a new Pilgrim's Progress by Eugene Peterson, professor emeritus of spiritual theology at Regent College in Vancouver. But it has simultaneously been condemned as theologically "heretical" by conservative evangelical Charles Colson. The more moderate Christian Century described it as "kitchified' and "misguided." But the young-adult -oriented Christian Website zoecarnate.com called it a "guy meets God novel that has literary integrity and spiritual daring," a prayer journey that makes you feel like you're truly "fellowshipping with God." Despite the diverse reviews, the deeply religious novel managed a lengthy stay last year on multiple bestseller lists, including those of the New York Times and USA Today. The Shack is a fictional exploration of insights and encounters that can arise during a time of grief."
If nothing else, the book has the potential to engender a personal relationship with God.
